I get to meet all sorts of interesting people from all walks of life. As a bonus my input helps them to stay living at home and independently for as long as possible. Plus I get paid!

From the outset I have been given the training and support I needed to do my job. And they have been understanding about any limitations I might have. No one expects me to be as physically able and energetic as my younger colleagues.

Mother is now nothing like the person she was and yet I have seen her treated with dignity and total respect at all times. You have encouraged her to voice opinions, and never once have you asked me to answer over her head as if she wasn’t in the room.

The kindness shown is beyond belief.

I am humbled by how you come in each day and whatever the situation treat Mother with the highest level of compassion. You all fully appreciate that Mother cannot help how she is now, and you meet her at her level. Through difficult visits I have never known any of you to be less than truly caring professionals. With this professionalism there is also humour and character, you are not “products of a system” but wonderfully and highly trained individuals. Mother is safe and obviously feels it. Her medication is always there, she is clean, warm and cared for. I don’t believe she could have better. I feel safe to be away from mother when you are here.

On a personal note I must admit to sometimes having a lump in my throat when I see or hear your kindness and thought; the night she was tucked in bed with her “children ” in place I nearly shed a tear.  I am allowed to work with you as a team when I am with her; I’m not shut out from what is happening. You all have my unwavering gratitude and I just wish Mother could have met you earlier. You are a New Dawn and I say Thankyou for all that you are.

I am writing to thank you very warmly for all the wonderful carers you have so kindly supplied to look after my mum during a very difficult time for our family. I had been working in hospitality, but when Coronavirus appeared I was furloughed. When I went back it just wasn’t the same so I decided to change my career.

I chose social care as I loved the sound of supporting people to be independent in their own homes. I chose New Dawn from a leaflet through my door; and I liked what I saw.

To be honest, I wish I’d moved earlier. Every day is different and I now feel I’m part of a team.

The early mornings and bad weather are all forgotten when I get to clients and see the smile on their face…and know I’m making a difference to their lives.

Doing my Care Certificate really boosted my confidence and I hope to soon start my level 2 in health and social care.

There are many benefits to my job, especially the financial security and having a secure job in very uncertain times. Although the job can be physically and emotionally tiring, it is so rewarding. I love my job.

In 2014 I was in college, studying hairdressing. I needed a job to pay for a car and transport. My sister works for New Dawn Care Agency (NDCA) and suggested I tried working in care. In all honesty, I didn’t think it would be for me.

I started with shadow shifts. I was very quiet and shy and felt like I had no idea what I was doing; my shadowing was for 2 weeks. NDCA’s management and other Carers gave me amazing support; and I found I really enjoyed the work – it soon wasn’t feeling like a job. So I left hairdressing college and became a full time Carer.

I didn’t believe I would be able to cope with challenging clients or challenging situations, but with the help of the NDCA management team and the Carers believing in me; my confidence in being a Carer has sky rocketed.

With the support of the company I completed my  Levels 2 and 3 NVQ in Health & Social Care.

In February 2020 I was appointed as one of NDCA’s Senior Carers. I feel supported by the management within my new role in the company. I’ve been shown they believe in me and because of this I believe in myself and feel more confident.

The clients have always made me feel welcome and they let me know I’ve made a difference in their lives; this is why I work for NDCA, I’m making an impact and it is the most rewarding feeling in the world.
